Friends Are Our First Major Decision In Life

group of friends

By Ankush Kumar

Last Sunday I sorted my closet, this is a routine whenever my ballooned waist decides for a change. During the entire exercise a few pieces of clothes took me back to some very fond memories.

I had this old torn white shirt of my school days. It was our last day at school before our board exams. There were best wishes messages, colors and torn ends that reminded me of the madness that took place that afternoon. I had pretty much lost touch with that bunch of pals but Facebook revived those memories.

While cleaning the lower rack of my tees section I came across a red shirt (still baffles how did I buy that one). A few friends and I had gone shopping for our first day at college. Thanks to my waist, which always embarrasses me, we tried a million stores before I finally found this shirt. My friends annoyed by stupidity, convinced me that it was looking awesome on me. I eventually was ragged to death for my red little riding hood. To date they are my closest friends and, they haven’t missed a single chance in making my misery public.

While I was arranging my photo albums neatly inside my closet, I stumbled on a few photographs. One that took me back in time was when my friends and I had beer and cigarette for the first time. One of my friend’s dad had this huge collection of scotch and cigarettes and he used to keep it in a drawer inside his bedroom. We were bored to death watching the same movie again and again, purely out of fun, we sneaked in while he was out and stole a packet of cigarettes and booze. Then went near a beach and tasted blood for the first time. Then we were just having fun; today those photographs have become cherished memories.

Once I was done with my closet act, and was dumping all my old belongings in the trashcan, a thought struck me. All material gifts get worn out and replaced, parents are a relation we choose by blood, but its friends we make independently. It’s the first major decision we take, some turn out to be sour and some very sweet.

Happy Friendship’s Day.

Guy Outside a Girl Trial Room: Experiences

FOG-024792 - © - FogStock Collection

Light pink, dark pink, lavender pink, rose pink, salmon pink….blah pink. Never had an idea what the actual difference between them really is, till you actually ended up befriending a girl and started going out with her. Yeah right, once you started dating her and took her shopping, you realised the pinks are a lot of trouble. Here Anshuman Sharvesh talks about what that generally means and how even though you have no idea of pinks you have to end up saying which is the best.

Once you are done with the headache of colour, having shown utmost knowledge of the subject, the atom bomb with the title SIZE strikes. This is a tad tough I tell you because every inch of that dress should fit the skin of the fairer sex. If it does not, the second one is tried till actually one is brought after exploring the entire mall. No really, what does she think, I am born with terminator eyes or what? I can’t just have a glance and make sure that bulky body fits in that Extra Small Size.

Somehow you again manage to get the size right. At least you act and recommend one with a smile (a fake one) on your face. That thought of sleeping on the couch is still at work though the thought of turning gay also crosses mind by now. Thankfully you still want to obey laws of nature and because you know that this is not just a simple dress, it’s your life’s dependence; you act as if you are enjoying the entire process.

After the size and color comes the right occasion for the dress. Unless it fits an occasion that is nearing, (considering sizes change in matter of days) no matter how good it is, its rejected. Oops did I forget mentioning correlating it with jewellery and imagining whether or not it will go along with that light green necklace that you are supposed to buy too. By this time you look at your watch and find out that it’s just 4 hours, ”just” this adjective is off course not yours.

Still you manage to choose one dress with all calculation; Boolean logic and imagination that even Einstein may feel proud off. As usual though, your choice gets rejected because out of blue moon your partner is stuck with an idea that you don’t even get to know. The good part is by the time you are married you become a veteran at this.

4 Reasons Why Blackberry Beats iPhone Hands Down

blackberry-10-vs-iphone-5

Now before you bring out the knives to kill me, at least listen to my reasons for beating down your iPhone. If the two C’s Convenience and Comfort were all that you needed from a smart phone, don’t even look beyond the Blackberry

All of my friends want me to buy an iPhone. They think it will change my life. Really, a phone can change your life? I thought the only game changers were what you successfully do in office at home. Anyways, that is the last thing this topic demands so let’s get back to it. Not only friends, even people I meet for like 3 minutes, tell why should I change my Blackberry to Steve Job’s latest gadget and then I get a good dosage on latest additions to the gadget.

But I have always had my reasons for not changing my blackberry for any other smartphone. Here are four of them.

  1. A real keyboard: Even Eric Schmidt uses a Blackberry for this. Yeah, you heard it right. Eric Schmidt does not use an Android smartphone, even though he sits on the board for Android. And if you still don’t believe the efficiency of this, try getting in a race with me over typing with your iPhone. I bet that not only I will be twice as quicker but also twice as correct (because of the gibberish you will end up writing on that phone of yours).
  2. BBM: This was one of the reasons I picked this phone. I was always attracted by this feature since I first saw a Blackberry. It is this app which tells me when my messages are delivered and then read and is also free regardless of how much I send. Yes, I know you would debate of the watsapp available on the iPhone but the last I heard was that it was going to become a paid app soon.
  3. The Indicator Light: So you want to tell me that I take a phone which does not show me if I have an unread message. Not I then, find another customer. I am someone who does not keep peeping inside my phone every 5 minutes so unless an indicator shows me I have unread messages I will preferably not touch my phone for a while. My Blackberry has a red light which keeps blinking till I actually end up reading the message or the mail. For example I leave my phone for a while, my red light will then tell whether there’s something new without having to look for myself.
  4. Lack of Bluetooth: No really, I want a Bluetooth to share music, videos and a lot of other things with friends who have any other phone. Now who has it, my Blackberry does, where as an iPhone does not. Why, they think it will increase piracy of iTunes, nonsense; there are enough download sites available for free in the market, to just go and download.

The reasons above might sound simple yet make a phone efficient enough for me to hold on to it, at least till Research In Motion is still in existence (a friend recently predicted it’s end soon).

Gifting Made Easy: Via Your Zodiac: Part II

In the last post we analyzed the first six zodiac signs and what should be gifted according to sun signs. In this one, we continue with gift suggestions for the next set of six sun signs.

LEO 3D

Leo (Jul 23 – Aug22): The rulers of the zodiac, Leos are regal, passionate, dynamic and dramatic. Somewhere deep within Leos there is the need to be pampered and treated like a star. They love gifts that spell lavishness and extravagance. Hair accessories, jewelry, a trip to a casino or cards are good gift options for them.

virgo_

Virgo (Aug 23 – Sep 22): Detail-oriented, focused, perfectionists, Virgos take organization and neatness very seriously. They take a practical approach to most things in life, including gift items! To this end, they can be gifted a dictionary, handbag, a wine set or a social calendar. Whatever the gift, just make sure that the Virgo can use it in their daily life.

artistic-libra

Libra (Sep 23 – Oct 22): Forever trying to create balance and harmony, those born under this sun sign love elegance, exclusivity and quiet beauty. Some delicate items, like silk scarf or candle sticks are bound to appeal to them. They would not care for the price tag of the gift. However, the artistic and beauty quotient of the gift would have a great impact.

scorpio

Scorpio (Oct 23 – Nov 21): Very inquisitive, Scorpios have a penchant for mystery. In fact they are the detectives of the zodiac. They hold power and sensuality very close to their hearts. Binoculars, a spy novel or a book on tantric yoga, dark glasses or clothing or a massage set would be perfect for them as sensual, intriguing gifts appeal to them immensely.

sagittarius

Sagittarius (Nov 22 – Dec 21): Sporty, impulsive, fun loving and optimistic, Sagittarians love adventure sports. Travel related gifts are the best bet for them. Hot air balloon ride or some equestrian lessons would be just perfect.

capricorn

Capricorn (Dec 22 – Jan 19): Ambitious, reliable, old-worldly – these traits define the sun sign quite precisely. A fountain pen, an antique record player or desk, a beautiful watch are good gift options for Capricorns. Do not waste your money buying some newfangled items. Also, Capricorns habitually neglect their creative side, so a craft kit that can tingle a ‘big idea’ can also make for a good gift for them.

Now that you have a better idea of sun signs, Happy Gifting!
